The United States and The Fentanyl Drug Crisis

The United States is currently facing a severe drug crisis, mainly due to the use of Fentanyl and other opioids. Each week, over 1,500 Americans die from opioid use, making it the leading cause of fatal overdoses in the country. The national public health agency ‘The CDC’ reports that within a 12-month period ending in January 2022, there were more than 107,000 deaths in the US due to drug overdoses and poisonings. Of these, 67% were linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Moreover, there has been a significant increase of over 56% in the rate of deaths involving synthetic opioids between 2019 and 2020, accounting for 82% of all opioid-related deaths in 2020.
